  1. Heat the oil in a pan. Chop the onion and sauté till caramelized..
  2. Cook the mashed potatoes as you like them and this can be done before. You can see one of my recipes or your own, even instant as long as they are firm..
  3. Preheat the oven 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  4. When the onion is caramelized mix with all the ingredients for the gravy and simmer in the pan stirring often..
  5. When thickened set aside off heat..
  6. Mix the ingredients for the salisbury steak. Let rest at room temperature for 15 minutes..
  7. Form the steaks into golfball sized disc. Small patties about 1/2 inch thick..
  8. Sear in a pan for two minutes.
  9. Turn and sear on second side for 2 more minutes. Keep turning till each patty cooks 4 minutes 2 turns per side..
  10. Add to the gravy each of the patties/ disc as they are cooked..
  11. Add mashed potatoes on top of the salisbury steak and gravy. Use a wet fork dipping in water as needed to spread out the mashed potatoes..
  12. Add to the oven and bake for 20-30 minutes till potatoes are browned on top..
